RETORI ROOTS is the inaugural chapter of a collaborative series uniting textile artist Diedrick Brackens with director Emma Scarafiotti. Produced by Studio Blanco and photographed by Pietro Ronzoni, the project explores identity, heritage, and transformation. Shot on the Sony Burano with Bausch and Lomb Super Baltar lenses, it captures Brackens’s woven tapestries, rooted in African American and queer narratives. Drawing from West African weaving, Southern quilting, and European tapestry-making, the film creates a layered portrait of cultural memory. Through its meditative visual language, RETORI ROOTS reflects on ancestry and storytelling, revealing the transformative power of collaboration between textile and cinema.
